Indonesia SIPF, which collaborates with TICMI and PT Mirae Asset Sekuritas, has held the International Class 2023 in South Korea on 24 – 26 October 2023. This activity also ends a series of activities in Investor Protection Month (IPM) 2023, where the winners of the competition were held in IPM 2023 have the opportunity to take part in the International Class of 2023.
This year's International Class has the theme "South Korea's Capital Market: Market, Products, and Investor Protection" or getting to know more about the capital market in South Korea, starting from industry, products, to forms of investor protection. The Indonesian capital market, which is still developing, certainly requires lots of references and benchmarking against capital markets in other countries, one of which is the capital market in South Korea, which is one of the largest capital markets in the Asian region.
On the first day of the International Class 2023, the event was opened by remarks from Mr. Hyungun Ji, as Director of Global Strategy Korea Exchange (KRX). Then continued by Mrs. Shara Soekarno as Director of TICMI, and closed by Mr. Narotama Aryanto as Main Director of Indonesia SIPF, before continuing with the material session.
In the first material session, there was a discussion regarding an overview of the economic, financial and capital market situation in South Korea and an introduction to ESG investment in South Korea delivered by KRX representatives. Then in the second material session on the first day, the material presented was related to the introduction of trading emission schemes in South Korea and the introduction of derivative instrument products and markets in South Korea.
On the second day, October 25 2023, two materials were presented. The first is related to ESG Investment which was conveyed by Mr. Edward D. Shin from Mirae Asset Securities Korea, and further material presented by Ms. Jiwon Jeong as Senior Manager of the Department of Resolution Korea Deposit Insurance Corporation (KDIC) regarding the Customer Asset Protection Scheme in South Korea, how KDIC provides guarantees for financial stability in South Korea and provides protection for the market and its customers.
Then on the last day, October 26 2023, the activity participants were invited to get to know the main products and derivatives of the Korea Exchange (KRX) by Mrs. Ha Aejin as representative of KRX. Then the activity participants also had the opportunity to get to know South Korea's TICMI, namely the Korea Capital Market Institute (KCMI). At the end of the session, activity participants gained a very valuable and unforgettable experience, namely being invited to tour the KOFIA (Korea Financial Investment Association) office and of course KRX. At KRX, participants received information about the history/long journey of the South Korean capital market to where it is today and of course participants were also invited to the KRX trading floor!
International Class 2023 participants consist of various backgrounds, ranging from SRO employees, SRO subsidiaries, to investment managers. Apart from that, of course the participants came from the 2023 IPM Competition Winners, namely representatives of PT MNC Sekuritas, PT Phintraco Sekuritas, Halu Oleo University Kendari, and Widya Dharma University Pontianak.
By participating in the three days of International Class 2023, it is hoped that participants will gain useful knowledge regarding the capital market in South Korea and valuable experience that can be shared and utilized for the development of the capital market in Indonesia.
